The Meadow

The story
There is something comforting about a meadow. Nothing in it seems to be trying very hard. The mountains don’t ask to be noticed. The grass doesn’t wonder if it is growing fast enough. And the cows seem perfectly content to stand exactly where they are. Maybe that’s why places like this make us stop. For a moment, there is nowhere else we need to be. The blue mountains stretch quietly in the distance, while the meadow carries on beneath them—grass moving in the breeze, cows wandering slowly from one patch to another, the light changing almost without notice. Nothing extraordinary happens. And yet, somehow, it feels like something does. Maybe the things that stay with us aren’t always the biggest moments. Maybe they are the ordinary ones we almost walked past. A quiet morning. A familiar view. Someone who made us feel seen. A kindness we didn’t think much about at the time. Small things, offered consistently, become part of the landscape of our lives. And sometimes, when everything gets quiet enough, we realize they were there all along.
